Operation QSL Fury

Some of them are easy to catch, some are not. Some are easy to verify, some are not, most of them broadcast regularly, but a few of them not. One thing that unites them is that I haven't sent them detailed reception reports. End justifies the means and that's why I will use all means to verify them - detailed reception reports, pictures of my equipment, sending postcards and of course return postage. But it's high time to QSL them all.

THIS TIME IT WAS GERMANY’S STATE-RUN DEUTSCHE WELLE RADIO THAT ACCUSED THE VOICE OF RUSSIA OF MAKING ROMANIA A “BANANA REPUBLIC” AND DISINTEGRATING THE BASICS OF A LEGAL STATE IN THE COUNTRY, AS WELL AS ATTEMPTING TO DISTANCE ROMANIA FROM BERLIN AND BRUSSELS.

The German radio claims that the Voice of Russia is manipulating Romanian MPs and is turning the country into a Russian colony. The Russian broadcaster is also accused of masterminding a strategy to affect the Romanian parliament to change the country’s Constitution “in line with the Voice of Russia wishes”.
Earlier, Romania’s’ President Traian Basescu stated that the country’s opposition, media and analysts are carrying out orders transmitted via the Voice of Russia instead of listening to the Western media.

DW accusations are another link in a series of attacks on the Russian radio which broadcasts on air and online in 37 languages. According to the Voice of Russia it has recently suffered a series of attacks –beginning from diplomatic and administrative pressure to hacking attacks on its partners’ sites in Europe.
The Voice of Russia has forwarded a letter to DW offering a thorough discussion on the matter to exchange opinions and information.

Earlier, Romanian President was given an opportunity to speak out on the VoR air and website.

Mirta, co-announcer of R Arcángel San Gabriel, during the 2012 Antarctic Campaign has just commented in a post of my blog "La Galena del Sur" featuring the station on Aug. 2012, that they are on the air from today on.

This is the message posted as a comment that I am roughly translating from Spanish:

"My name is Mirta and I share the studio, during this year 2012 at Base Esperanza station, with two more partners and the technical operator and we are very excited because today we returned to convey to everyone after the repair of equipment. We are proud to share this news with everyone!"

World DX Club to close down

It has been announced that the World DX Club (WDXC) is to close, a final issue of Contact magazine is to be published in December.For 44 years the club have published their newsletter Contact magazine every month, containing station logs, news, information and comment about radio and radio broadcasts, both current and historical, primarily, but not exclusively, international shortwave radio.Regretfully due to health reasons Arthur and Olive Ward have had to step down from their club duties in charge of membership subscriptions, dispatch of bulletins as well as many contributions to the content of Contact over the years. Arthur became club printer in July 1974 and added his secretarial role in December 1979.This leaves the club with too few voluntary staff for the work involved and it has been decided to cease publication of Contact. It is understood that outstanding subscriptions are to be transferred to the British DX Club for UK and overseas members outside of North America and to the North American Shortwave Association for North American members.

CRTC extends broadcast license for Sackville’s North Quebec Service until Dec 1

According to this article (see clipping below) the CRTC “mistakenly” listed the end date of RCI Sackville’s (call sign CKCX-SW) shortwave service to North Quebec as November 1, 2012. The CRTC has now amended the decision with an end date of December 1st, 2012.

The official revocation of the license of the CBC’s shortwave CKCX-SW/SACKVILLE, NB has been amended to DECEMBER 1st.  In an initial ruling on the requested revocation, the CRTC mistakenly listed the end date as NOVEMBER 1st.  The station is being shut down because of the grant of low-power repeaters for CBC RADIO ONE station CFFB/IQUALUIT, NUNAVUT at PURVIRNITUQ, KUUJJUARAPIK, INUKJUAK, SALLUIT, and KUUJJUAQ, NUNAVIT, all on 103.5 FM with 50 watts each.
