Farewell to shortwave broadcasters

A recording of the last 8 minutes of Radio Exterior de Espana last broadcast in English to Western Europe on 9665 kHz, 14th October 2014 between 1900 and 2000 hours UTC.

Radio Mayak ended its mediumwave and longwave broadcasts at the beginning of 2013. Back in the days, they could be heard on countless frequencies on the shortwave bands, too:

At the beginning of July 2013, after 65 years of broadcasting, Kol Israel suspended its last shortwave broadcasts in Farsi to Iran. The longtime shortwave listeners may remember they used to broadcast overseas programs in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Georgian, Persian, Hungarian, Romanian, Russian, as well as a home service program in Hebrew and external service in other Jewish languages: Yiddish, Bucharian, Ladino, Mograbit. They also had a DX-Program in English, hosted by Ben Dalfen, aired on Sundays. Their broadcasts in Russian, Hungarian and Georgian were a subject to jamming.
